Examining Attitudes about Sexual and Gender Diversity
In this resource, readers explore where they agree and disagree with a range of traditional or conservative and liberal or progressive views about sexual and gender diversity. We explain how attitudes can change and why sexually and gender-diverse people often experience poorer health.
We share current research and provide an inclusive response to the question, “Can people change their sexual orientation or gender?” We also describe common assumptions and behaviors about sexual and gender diversity that can cause harm and should be avoided. In addition, we explain the difference between aggressive or passive LGBTQIA-affirmative approaches and assertive LGBTQIA-affirmative approaches.
We hope this book reaches many people as a public education resource that shares helpful ideas and skills based on research. The goal is to encourage intellectual humility, replace stigma, and support understanding and well-being for everyone.
