We hope the ideas, skills, and stories in this booklet support you in living true to yourself, in whatever way that means to you and your well-being. We’ll explain how bias and shame can make it difficult for people to be themselves and thrive. We’ll review how ongoing stress from hearing false information, being excluded, or being treated unfairly for being different can affect a person’s health and development. This kind of stress is called minority stress. We hope this resource helps you respond better to discrimination, especially if you’ve been rejected because of your sexuality and gender experiences.

We hope this resource gives you more ways to respond to both everyday stress and minority stress and helps you feel good about aging. Overall, we want this resource to support you in knowing what you can do for yourself to feel more secure, as well as what we can do together to promote safety and empowerment for one another.
